Abstract: Ultrasonic level sensors are widely used in a variety of environments including water environment, acid and alkali, mud, food and so on.


Ultrasonic level transducer is a digital level instrument controlled by a microprocessor. In the measurement, the pulsed ultrasonic wave is sent by the sensor, and the sound wave is reflected by the liquid surface and received by the same sensor and converted into an electrical signal. The ultrasonic level sensor has functions such as automatic power adjustment, temperature compensation, and anti-interference. Due to the non-contact measurement, the measuring medium is almost uncontrolled. Ultrasonic level gauge is widely used in a variety of environments such as water environment, acid and alkali, mud, food and so on.There are precautions when is using the ultrasonic level sensor


I. Scope and Size
The size of the object to be detected by the ultrasonic level gauge directly affects the maximum range of the ultrasonic sensor. The ultrasonic level sensor must detect a certain level of sound before it can output. Large parts can reflect most of the sound of the ultrasonic sensor so that the sensor can detect the part at its longest sensing distance. Small parts can only reflect a small part of the sound, which results in a greatly reduced sensing range.


Second, the object to be detected
The ideal object for ultrasonic level gauges is to use ultrasonic detection should be large, flat and dense, and perpendicular to the front of the transducer. The most difficult objects to detect are small objects made of sound-absorbing materials (such as foam rubber), or objects at an angle to the transducer. You can detect some difficult objects by having the sensor detect the background surface and then react to the detection target object between the sensor and the background.

If the liquid surface is stationary and perpendicular to the sensor surface, it is easy to detect the liquid. If the liquid level fluctuates greatly, the response time of the ultrasonic sensor can be extended, so as to take the average of the fluctuation changes to obtain a more consistent reading. However, ultrasonic level sensor cannot accurately detect liquid with a foamy surface, because foam can deviate the direction of sound propagation.


Third, vibration
Whether the ultrasonic level gauge is the vibration of the sensor itself or the vibration of nearby machines, it may affect the accuracy of the distance measurement. A rubber anti-vibration device can be used when is installing ultrasonic level timers to reduce such problems. Rails are also sometimes used to eliminate or greatly reduce component vibration.


Fourth, attenuation
The transducer for ultrasonic level measurement is also designed with a temperature compensation function to regulate the slow change of the ambient temperature. However, it cannot regulate temperature gradients or rapid changes in the ambient temperature.


V. Mistested results
Objects near the ultrasonic level gauge (such as guide rails or fixed rods) may reflect sound waves. To accurately detect a target object, the effects of nearby sound reflecting surfaces must be reduced or eliminated. In order to avoid false detection of nearby objects, the ultrasonic level gauges are equipped with LED displays to instruct the operator during installation to ensure that the sensors are properly installed and reduce the risk of false measurements.
