Ultrasonic wind speed transducer and wind direction are one of the important meteorological elements. Especially in the construction of navigation and emergency vehicle-mounted automatic weather stations, mobile wind speed and wind direction measurement systems are required. The rotor-type wind direction transmitter and the three-cup type wind speed transmitter both adopt a mechanical structure design, and there are rotating parts. Before the monitoring, a low wind speed is required to start. If the wind speed transducer is lower than the starting value, the propeller or the wind cup will not be able to rotate and monitoring; and because of the presence of moving parts, it is prone to wear and damage by severe weather. At the same time, due to the existence of friction, the mechanical wind speed and direction indicator also has a starting wind speed. Wind speeds transducer is lower than the starting value will not drive the propeller or the wind cup to rotate. Therefore, for the breeze is lower than the starting wind speed, the mechanical anemometer will not be able to measure. In order to overcome the inherent shortcomings of the traditional wind cup wind speed and direction indicator, a new type of ultrasonic wind speed and direction indicator came into being. Ultrasonic wind speed anemometer is a measuring sensor or measuring instrument that calculates wind speed and wind direction by sending sound pulses and measuring the time or frequency (doppler transform) difference at the receiving end.

Working principle of ultrasonic wind speed sensor and direction sensor
The working principle of the ultrasonic wind speed sensor is to use the ultrasound that time difference method to achieve the measurement of wind speed and direction. Due to the speed of sound propagation in the air, it will be superimposed on the velocity of the airflow upward. If the propagation direction of the ultrasonic wave is the same as the wind direction, then its speed will be accelerated; conversely, if the propagation direction of the ultrasonic wind speed sensor is opposite to the wind direction, then its speed will become slower. Therefore, under the fixed detection conditions, the speed of ultrasonic wave propagation in the air can be correspond to wind speed function. The exact wind speed and direction can be obtained through calculation. Since the sound wave propagates in the air, its speed is greatly affected by the temperature; the wind speed sensor detects two opposite directions on the two channels, so the effect of temperature on the sound wave speed is negligible.


Transducer for ultrasonic wind sensor has the characteristics of light weight, no moving parts, ruggedness, and does not require maintenance and on-site calibration. It can output wind speed and direction at the same time. Customers can choose the wind speed unit, output frequency and output format according to their needs. You can also choose a heating device (recommended for use in an icy environment) or an analog output according to your needs. It can be used in conjunction with computers, data collectors or other acquisition devices with RS485 or analog output. If necessary, multiple units can also be used as a network.
